PhD ’84

“The ORC faculty and students just came across as the smartest people in the world to me.  No matter what you are doing, if you surround yourself with this caliber of people, many of whom will become your friends – well, you will have a hard time failing.”

The ORC has grown over the years to nearly 78 doctoral students, 15 Master’s in Operations Research, and 66 Masters of Business Analytics students per year.  We support our students using a combination of research and teaching assistantships and fellowships.

The Operations Research Center (ORC) at MIT is one of the most distinguished academic environments for Operations Research in the world. For over 60+ years, the Center has played a leading role in research in the field of OR while educating a large number of exceptional students who have become leaders in OR in both academia and industry.

The ORC is one of the most selective academic units at MIT.  We admit 15-20 doctoral students per year and 5-10 master’ students out of approximately 400 applications.  Our yield is approximately 80%.

In order to continue to attract exceptional students to the Center, funding is need to support our recruitment efforts.  The donations received will help to defray some of the costs associated with our two-day Open house. In addition, the donations will be used towards the costs associated with maintaining a state-of-the-art computing environment for our students.
